USEFUL TIPS

Trip to the Amazon – Information

.

Meeting point

The trip starts in Manaus where you’ll meet a representative of the local organization. Don’t worry if you travel solo or don’t speak Portuguese: we’ll take care of you all the way up to Xixuaú!

.

Clothing and equipment

You’ll need a hammock and a light blanket for the boat journey. We can easily show you where to buy these in Manaus if necessary.
.
We suggest you bring shorts, trousers (for treks in the forest), cool T-shirts or shirts with short sleeves for canoe trips and long sleeves for the forest, bikini or swimming trunks, walking shoes or trainers for trekking, sandals (flip-flops are ideal), sunhat and a kagool, poncho or light raincoat. Please dress in colors that blend with the forest; brown or green will be right, avoid white if possible.
For the best chance of seeing animals, you could bring binoculars.
We do not provide bath towel in the room and suggest to bring your personal one even for the boat trip.
A torch for night time is required and a waterproof bag is advisable – especially for camera equipment.
.

Health precautions

Upon arrival you will be asked to show your Green Pass, wear personal masks and follow the anti-covid security measures indicated by the staff.

No vaccines are required to enter Brazil, but yellow fever is recommended. Anti-malarials can be suggested by your doctor or your qualified travel advisor.
We also recommend high-protection sunscreen and insect repellent.
There are no doctors in the village. Make sure you bring a sufficient supply of any medicines that you normally use or anticipate needing.

In the event of an emergency, the speedboat Ariranha will take you to the first city hospital in 6 hours.

.

Communications

There is no mobile signal at Xixuaú but the staff’s internet connection is always available for emergencies.

.

Please note

  • There are no shops in or near Xixuaú, so any personal items or extra consumables must be brought with you (for example soft drinks, beer, toiletries, batteries, etc.).
  • Local people make and sell small handicrafts (jewelry and small gifts) and we recommend that you bring cash in small denominations to enable you to make these purchases.
